Thanks for keeping an eye on that spam for me, it comes in everyday and it&#039;s become a routine having to remove the filth. They usually edit as anonymous users so I&#039;ve been tempting to just require anonymous user&#039;s edits to be verified by an administrator but I just feel that would take away from the wiki/edit anything instantly aspect.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If someone has messed up a page beyond recognition a good trick is to click the History tab, and you can see a list of all stages the page has been in, thank goodness the software keeps everything. Then you can click say the last edit by me, and it will show you what the page should look like, before the spam. Then you can just click edit and save and it&#039;ll save that older revision over the spam. Be careful on [[Talk:Main Page]] when removing the spam because a lot of times the spammer will replace comments on the page with spam, so if we just manually remove the spam we lose the comment(s) that was replaced. The best way is to click the History tab, click the last &#039;good&#039; edit, click Edit, and then save it. It was the tongue that developed among those non-[[Teleri|Telerin]] [[Elves]] who reached [[Aman]] (the [[High Elves]]) from an earlier language called [[Common Eldarin]]. Quenya was typically written with the [[Tengwar]] of [[Fëanor]]. An older script, [[Rúmil (Elf of Tirion)|Rúmil]]&#039;s [[Sarati]], was used also.&lt;br /&gt;

Of the three clans of Elves in Aman, the [[Noldor]] and the [[Vanyar]] spoke slightly different, though mutually intelligible, dialects of Quenya (&#039;&#039;[[Noldorin Quenya]]&#039;&#039; and &#039;&#039;[[Vanyarin Quenya]]&#039;&#039; or &#039;&#039;[[Quendya]]&#039;&#039; respectively). The word Quenya, however, usually refers to Noldorin Quenya, since it was the only Quenya dialect spoken in [[Middle-earth]].&lt;br /&gt;

The language was also adopted by the [[Valar]] who also made some new introductions into it from their [[Valarin|own language]], though these loanwords are more numerous in the Vanyarin dialect than the Noldorin one. This is probably the case because of the enduringly close relationship the Vanyar had with the Valar. The third clan in Aman, the [[Teleri]], spoke a different, closely related language: [[Telerin]], although this was by some seen as a dialect of Quenya which was untrue in a historic perspective but plausible in a linguistic one; the languages did not share a common history but were very much alike.&lt;br /&gt;

The Noldor who fled to [[Middle-earth]] following the [[Darkening of Valinor]] spoke Quenya among themselves. However, when Elu [[Thingol]] of Doriath, who was the king of the [[Sindar]] (Elves of the Telerin line who remained in [[Beleriand]] instead of journeying to Valinor) learnt about their slaying of the Teleri, he forbade the use of Quenya in all his realm. The Sindar, had been slow to learn Quenya anyway, while the Noldor at this time had fully mastered Sindarin.&lt;br /&gt;

Aside from inclusive and exclusive modes in the first person plural, there is also a dual mode, denoted by &#039;&#039;emmë&#039;&#039;, &#039;&#039;-mmë&#039;&#039;. The pronouns can be declined much like the regular nouns; for instance, the dative form of &#039;&#039;emmë&#039;&#039; is &#039;&#039;emmen&#039;&#039;. This appears to be mostly regular, except for &#039;&#039;te&#039;&#039;, &amp;quot;they&amp;quot;, which takes the dative form &#039;&#039;tien&#039;&#039;.&lt;br /&gt;

==Inspiration==&lt;br /&gt;
Quenya&#039;s phonology and grammar are most strongly influenced by Finnish, which is an agglutinative language; grammatical inspiration also comes from Latin and Greek. The phonology is also based on Finnish, and to a lesser extent Latin, Italian and Spanish.  Some interesting phonological rules are that no consonant cluster can begin or end a syllable (with one exception, the dual dative ending -nt), a word may not end in a non-dental consonant, and voiced stops must be preceded by sonorants. The first two of these phonotactic rules also exist in Finnish.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The most striking feature of Quenya is that it is a highly agglutinating language, meaning that multiple affixes are often added to words to express grammatical function. It is possible for one Quenya word to have the same meaning as an entire English sentence. For example, one could say &amp;quot;They have seen it.&amp;quot; in Quenya in a single word, namely &#039;&#039;Ecénientes&#039;&#039;.&lt;br /&gt;

Tolkien wrote much more material about Quenya and his other languages than he published in his lifetime.  In fact, Tolkien, a professor of linguistics, originally invented Middle-earth and its inhabitants as a means of imposing upon his artificial languages a history of war, migration and suffering. The famous novels might be considered incidental to his further and more passionately developed linguistic hobby.  The journals &#039;&#039;Vinyar Tengwar&#039;&#039; and &#039;&#039;Parma Eldalamberon&#039;&#039; are devoted to editing and publishing Tolkien&#039;s linguistic papers. &lt;br /&gt;

Quenya is one of many constructed languages introduced over the years by science fiction and fantasy writers, some others being Klingon, Newspeak, Nadsat, the Ascian language and Lapine. &lt;br /&gt;

The Faithful became a party distinct from the King&#039;s Men during the reign of [[Tar-Ancalimon]] the fourteenth King. They maintained the use of the [[Elven tongues]] and welcomed the [[Elves]] of [[Tol Eressëa]] to their land, in spite of the growing hostility of the King&#039;s Men. The Faithful also respected and loved the Valar still, and made no attempt to speak against the [[Ban of the Valar|Ban]] that the Valar had set against the Númenóreans sailing into [[Aman|the West]]. Nevertheless, they &amp;quot;did not escape the affliction of their people&amp;quot; regarding the fear of Death that the [[Shadow]] had brought upon all the Númenóreans, and they were troubled by the fate of [[Men]]. Unlike the King&#039;s Men, though, the Faithful had chosen to believe the words of the [[messengers of the Valar]] and [[Estel (philosophical concept)|trust]] that death, called the [[Gift of Men]] by the Elves, was not an evil. It was in this choice that they differed most from the majority of the people of Númenor.&lt;br /&gt;

The Faithful looked to the [[Lords of Andúnië|Lords of Andúnië]] for guidance in later days. These Lords, who were held in high esteem by all the Númenóreans, kept their connection with the Faithful a secret for a long time, because they wished to use their power in the [[Council of the Sceptre|King&#039;s Council]] to steer the Kings to wiser courses of action. Nevertheless, the rulers of the isle became increasingly antagonistic to all those who were recognized to be members of the minority party.&lt;br /&gt;

Like the King&#039;s Men, the Faithful also made settlements in [[Middle-earth]], most notably [[Pelargir]], but unlike them the Faithful did not seek to subjugate the natives of the [[Great Lands]]. Because of the coldness between the two parties, the Faithful built Pelargir far away from the colonies of the King&#039;s Men, which were a great distance to the south. The Faithful also sailed northwards to [[Lindon]] to converse with the Elves there.&lt;br /&gt;

===Treatment by the Later Kings of Númenor===&lt;br /&gt;
The Kings of Númenor looked upon the Faithful and their continuing friendship with the Elves with increasing suspicion; they banned the use of the [[Eldarin]] tongues and eventually moved the Elf-friends to the east of the island so that they could no longer communicate with these &amp;quot;spies of the [[Valar]]&amp;quot;, their name for the Eressëan Elves. The Kings even kept them under surveillance to make sure they did nothing subversive. The situation of the Faithful only became more bearable when [[Tar-Palantir]], the son of Ar-Gimilzôr who was the greatest enemy of the Elf-friends, attempted to repent of the past actions of the Kings. He treated the Faithful kindly and allowed them to speak the Elven tongues again. But Tar-Palantir&#039;s rule was only a minor break in what would become an increasingly cruel policy of oppression, for his nephew seized the [[Sceptre]] after his death and proclaimed himself King [[Ar-Pharazôn]].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ar-Pharazôn did not immediately begin harassing the Faithful after he was secure in power; his attention was chiefly on [[Sauron]], who had begun to assail the settlements of the Númenóreans with great strength.  Angered by this, Ar-Pharazôn prepared a great naval force and sailed to Middle-earth with the intention of defeating the [[Maia]]. When he arrived, the servants of Sauron fled in terror from his host, and Sauron himself surrendered to Ar-Pharazôn; seeing that he could not defeat the Númenóreans by arms, he decided to corrupt them until they destroyed themselves. The King decided to take Sauron to Númenor as a hostage, and it was then that the worst of the Faithful&#039;s misfortunes befell them.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was not long before Sauron had used his power to turn the hearts of most of the Númenóreans towards his counsels, and he told them that by using human sacrifices to worship [[Melkor]], they could escape death. Naturally, &amp;quot;it was most often from among the Faithful&amp;quot; that the Númenóreans chose their victims for these sacrifices. They never said that they killed the Faithful for not worshiping Melkor, however; instead the Númenóreans accused them of plotting against the King and the rest of the people of the land.&lt;br /&gt;

===Escape from the Downfall of Númenor ===&lt;br /&gt;
This cruel treatment lasted several decades until Ar-Pharazôn grew old and was in great fear of the approaching end of his life. Therefore he listened to Sauron&#039;s suggestion that he gather a massive [[Great Armament|Armament]] and sail to [[Aman]], land of the Valar, to claim everlasting life. When [[Amandil (Lord of Andúnië)|Amandil]] the last Lord of [[Andúnië]] heard this news, he knew that the Númenóreans would surely come to ruinous defeat in war against the Valar, and so he decided to make a preemptive voyage into the West to beg them for mercy and deliverance from Sauron. Before he left, he advised his son [[Elendil]] to furnish nine ships and anchor them off the east coast of Númenor and wait for what would happen next. After he sailed west, Amandil was never heard from again, but by taking his advice, Elendil and his sons survived the disastrous [[Downfall of Númenor]] that was the result of Ar-Pharazôn&#039;s war. A mighty wind took their ships eastward and swept them onto the shores of Middle-earth. There they set up the realms of [[Arnor]] and [[Gondor]]. These kingdoms were populated by both the descendants of the Faithful and indigenous Men of Middle-earth.&lt;br /&gt;

*[[Dwarves]] (Khazad): Short, stocky bearded folk, strong and hardy, able to endure pain, fatigue and suffering better than other races.  Upon reaching maturity they appear old in a fashion that belies their hardiness.  They often live in subterranean kingdoms, and have a great love of craftworks, especially things made of gold, silver, and &#039;&#039;[[mithril]]&#039;&#039;.&lt;br /&gt;
*[[Elves]] (Eldar): The oldest and wisest of races of Middle-earth, they are immortal, noble, and fair. Their kind have far clearer sight and perception than Men, and they&#039;re nimble. They are naturally aware of many things that are hidden from the Younger Children. They are divided into a number of particular kinds, primarily based on their course through elven history.  The [[Noldor]] or High Elves are those that heeded the call of the [[Vala (Middle-earth)|Valar]] and traveled across the sea, most of them later rebelling and following [[Fëanor]] back to [[Middle-earth]] in pursuit of the [[Silmaril]]s.  They are wise in Lore and Smithcraft, and created many [[Rings of Power]].  The [[Sindar]] or Grey Elves are those that heard the call, but stopped and chose to stay in [[Beleriand]].  These are the more numerous kind of elf in the Third Age, and have great love of, and talent with, music and song.  The [[Silvan Elves]] or Wood Elves are those that ceased their journey to the West before crossing the [[Misty Mountains]].  During the Third age, they live in woodland realms such as [[Lothlórien]] or caverns in the mountains of [[Mirkwood]].  They have facility with wilderness skills. &lt;br /&gt;
*[[Hobbits]]:  The signature race of Tolkien, these diminutive people are a distant relation to men.  They are good-natured, hospitable and easy going folk, two to four feet in height with hair covered feet.  There are three major strains of Hobbits: [[Fallohides]], taller, slimmer, fairer, and more uncommon than their fellows, they often have more facility with language, song, and craft, and have an unusual adventurous streak.  [[Harfoots]] are the most numerous kind, and tend to be shorter and browner than others.  They are nimble with crafts, more friendly with Dwarves, and tend to stick to the custom of living in holes and tunnels.  The [[Stoors]] are broader and sturdier and most numerous in [[Shire (Middle-earth)#Buckland|Buckland]].  These are the only Hobbits who know anything about boating, swimming and fishing.&lt;br /&gt;

The [[Men of Darkness]] are the [[Easterlings]], the [[Haradrim]] (Southrons), and [[Variag (Middle-earth)|Variags]] of [[Khand (Middle-earth)|Khand]], most of whom have lived under the sway of [[Sauron]].  They are shorter, broader, darker of hair and eye, and duskier.  Finally, there are Wild Men, who are short and squat and live rudely in the wild, though they carry their own nobility and powers. For example, &#039;&#039;Elassar&#039;&#039; was a title of Aragorn&#039;s, but &#039;&#039;Thorongil&#039;&#039; was a pseudonym under which he fought many wars for Gondor. Elassar was, so to speak, just an addition to Aragorn&#039;s name, while Thorongil was an alter ego of him. I have read numerous articles about Tom Bombadil and who exactly he is. But there are SO many different opinions, I still can&#039;t figure it out. I am a Tolkien fan under 20, and would really like a good strong opinion using facts to help me figure out who he really is. Below are some opinions i have heard:&lt;br /&gt;

1. Tom Bombadil is a &amp;quot;retired&amp;quot; Maia.&lt;br /&gt;
