Hello HBaratte and welcome! Many thanks for your work on our articles related to ICE. A detail: I'm thinking of the name "Mithril Miniatures", which you render in italics -- wouldn't it be customary to use non-italicized letters for company names? For example, we use "Iron Crown Enterprises's Middle-earth Role Playing". --Morgan 20:04, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
:Hello Morgan and thanks! You are right! OK, I must modify the name "Mithril Miniatures". I shall change the letters of this company name... --Hervé B. 22:59, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

::If you want to kill some time ;-) , it would be nice to put the ICE stock numbers in the book templates. Journey if you dare through the shadowy depths of Mirkwood, encounter Great Eagles, Giant Spiders, Bears, Wolves, and the Dragons of the Withered Heath.

Follow the Old Forest Road through the heart of Mirkwood - take the path of Orome and the Elves of the First Age - and you'll find yourself in deep, dark woods once full of game and fish and berries. How strangely quiet the woods are now, how dreary and threatening since the Shadow of Mordor cast its pall across the land six hundred years ago. Only the Giant Spiders of the forest seem content as they lie in their shadowy lairs, alert for the slightest stir in their sticky, steely webs...
INTRODUCTION

Far to the South of the warring realms of Gondor and Mordor, encompassing the lower half of the great desert of Haradwaith lies an area of harsh winds and blazing sun known to its inhabitants as Bozisha-Miraz. On the maps of the Northern world the region is a labeled Far Harad. The people who dwell there have passed in and out of sight of Middle-earth's great powers, but in times of great conflict between light and dark, such remote regions have been left to fend for themselves in favor of more important lands to the north. Thus, this piece of land, while it has been swayed by outsiders, has always been given time to return to its traditional ways when greater nations grow distracted.

The land of Far Harad is mostly taken up by the broad deserts of Haradwaith. Its northern boundaries are lost in the desert haze some leagues south of Umbar. To the south and east stand badlands where the farthest flung fingers of Haradan civilization fall well short of touching the neighboring states. To the west swells the endless sea. At the nation's center is its only reasonably fertile area, Raj, where an inlet from the sea and a fair-sized river, the Rijesha, bring moisture to the soil. The remainder of the territory holds little more than rocky hills and a half-score eases. The sun is blazing hot in the daytime and unyielding until nightfall.

Where the Rijesha meets the ocean inlet stands the region's largest settlement, known to some by its Westron name of Harshport. To its people, it is called Bozisha-Dar, or "Gift of the Goddess" in Apysaic. Harshport is a hedge-podge of cultural styles, where that of the native population is generally dominant, but the power of Umbar and old Númenor can be seen and felt. A more traditional settlement is found across the Hills of the Moon from the Oar in the forest known as The Gaj. The town is Tresti, or "Rock," named for the stone that built it. Tresti's citizens are almost all of pure Haradan descent and are a proud and powerful people.

Though the land has ever been only loosely involved in the great affairs of the North, the history of its people is rich and colorful, and there is plenty room for adventure and high living here under the southern sun of Far Harad.

*A 16" x 20" full-color insert, side #1 depicts settings from THE LORD OF THE RINGS, side #2 maps out WOODMENTOWN, the HILL OF SORCERY, and a HOUSE-LORD settlement

From the Undeeps to the old Forest Road, across the Battle plain called DAGORLAD, Southern Mirkwood is a land cursed by the Necromancer of DOL GULDUR.

INTRODUCTION TO SOUTHERN RHOVANION

Long ago the realm of Southern Rhovanion earned the common name of South Wilderland. For despite numerous settlements of men over the years, Nature has always reigned supreme in this region of forest and plains. All who enter Southern Rhovanion, whether to travel or to live out their lives, must ready themselves for day-to-day encounters with the whims and forces of Nature. Every civilization that has made its home here - whether the primitive Beijabar, the savage Orcs of Dol Guldur, or the stately Northmen under Vidugavia - all have had to find ways to make their rugged ways of life respond to the greater forces of Nature.

Growing things have particular significance in this region dominated by the forest once called Greenwood the Great. In every corner of the wooded realm Nature is master, and to live here comfortably one must learn how to identify and gather the useful plants growing wild and free and, just as important, to identify, avoid, and use when necessary the potent poisonous plants Nature strews just as generously in one's pathway through the forest and the plains.

There once was a day when the forest bloomed beautiful and prairie flowers sweetly scented The Plains of Talath Harroch. There once was a day when the Fives sang to the seasons, and when Nature seemed calm and forgiving in her way. But those days are gone - maybe not forever, but in this year of 1640 few inhabitants of Southern Rhovanion expect life to become any easier.

During these years of recovery after the Great Plague, which hit Southern Rhovanion just as hard as it hit Gondor, people have been thrown back upon the critical resources of the natural world. The weather has turned harsher over the last few decades, and with the Plague has come illness from many directions. Vestiges of the Plague rise again among the citizens of Southern Rhovanion; perhaps due to the numerous refugees who come here from other stricken areas to live or die, depending upon what fate holds in store for them. The Plague struck humankind more violently than it struck Nature, and those who live in Southern Rhovanion are now more than ever at the mercy of their environment.

No one travels or lives in the region without falling under the shadow of Dol Guldur. While only the wisest have any notion of why this mountain sheds such a ghastly spell, every one knows that from it emanates the stench of evil and the shadow of death. Most hardships that befall one in Southern Rhovanion can be traced back in one way or other to the influence of that accursed craggy peak.

Yet conflicts have arisen that apparently have nothing to do with the Evil of that mountain. Southern Rhovanion, almost because of its pastoral background, has become the warring ground of forces beyond its bounds. The great Kings of Gondor - in their quest for empire and the subjugation of the Easterling tribes -- have brought constant conflict and bloodshed to a land which was once little more than a corridor for wandering folk. Few great wars originate within the minds and hearts of Southern Rhovanians, but many occur upon their hills and plains, forcing them to take up arms to protect and defend whatever homes and resources remain among them. This is a country under siege - not amidst battle today, but always under the omnipresent threat that war or pestilence, drought or deluge, could wipe out everything tomorrow.

INTRODUCTION

Dunland and the Southern Misty Mountains focuses on a dramatic and strategic region, the reaches north of the gateway between the wide, cool lands of Eriador and the grassy reaches of Calenardhon (Rohan). Extremely diverse in history, inhabitants, and opportunities, it is an ideal setting for adventuring and exploring.

Dunland is the home of the fierce and proud Dunlendings (D. "Daen Lintis"), highland tribes frequently influenced by minions of Sauron and Saruman. Their Daen ancestors experienced similar a similar domination during the late Second Age, and most migrated out of the traditional Dunnish homelands in the vales of the White Mountains (S. "Ered Nimrais"). These Dunmen settled all over eastern Eriador, mingling with older Eriadoran groups, but they retained their unique culture in the western foothills of the southern Misty Mountains (S. "Hithaeglir"). The distinct Dunlendings of this region formed an often loose collection of tribal territories, which became known as Dunland.

Dunland (D. "Dunfearan") encompasses the rugged foothills that rise to the north of the Old South Road (S. "Tiar Hariar") joining Tharbad in Cardolan to the markets further east. The highway skirts Dunland's southern border and runs eastward through the wide Isen Gap (S. "Búlith Angren") separating the Misty Mountains to the north from the White Mountains to the south. Later called the Gap of Rohan, this portal from Eriador to Gondor served as the most important pass in western Middle-earth. It was once the dividing line between the lands dominated by the two Dúnadan Kingdoms in Exile - Arnor and Gondor - and it remains a vital link for the Free Peoples of the West. Thus, Dunland's importance remains significant, despite the reduction in traffic along the highway.

A turbulent people, the Dunlendings are for the most part herders and hunters who jealously guard their independence and often raid the lands of their kinsmen. Strife is the rule in Dunland, which is just as well, for the neighboring folk fear the unification of the warlike Dunmen. This is particularly true of the Men of Calenardhon (Rohan), the Dunlendings' oldest and most challenging enemies.

The inhabitants of southernmost stretch of the Misty Mountains - the Giants, Dragons, Giant Eagles, Ores and other creatures of the wilds - are also affected by the presence of the Dunmen. Although they live at or above the treeline, they invariably focus their attentions to the west rather than the east, for they make their homes along the western side of the range. The Hithaeglir's eastern cliffs of the drop sharply, like sheer fells, making eastward land travel exceedingly hazardous. Access to the upper mountain valleys is provided by trails that originate in Dunland, lending further credence to the old adage that says: "the Daen have no King, no wealth, no capital, and no roads - yet they hold a good claim to yours and mine."

INTRODUCTION

Havens of Gondor focuses on the great fief called Dor-en-Ernil, the "Land of the Prince." Comprising all the lands between the rivers Gilrain and Ringlo/Morthond and including the whole of the hilly peninsula called Belfalas, it is a strategic province blessed with fine ports and fair weather. It lies in the heart of southern Gondor and, aside from Lamedon, it is the westernmost of the Stone-land's wellsettled regions.

Gondor's two most famous havens, the princely city of Dol Amroth and nearby Elven port of Edhellond, are both in Dor-en-Ernil. Undoubtedly the most dramatic harbors in the South Kingdom, their history embodies the grander tale of the Gondorian seafarers and their Elven friends, and it mirrors the struggles of the region's oft-times warring peoples.

Of course, Dor-en-Ernil is home to many lesser havens, including the fine harborage at Linhir. Together these towns house many of Gondor's seamen, and virtually all the ships which do not weigh anchor in the three maritime towns along the Anduin River: the great port-city of Pelargir, Harlond by Minas Tirith, and Osgiliath. Dor-en-Ernil's ports also provide a major portion of the warcraft engaged in the struggle against the Corsairs of Umbar and Harad.

The Kingdom of Cardolan encompasses all of the lands between the Rivers Brandywine, Greyflood, and Hoarwell. For a time, Cardolan stood at the forefront of resistance to the forces of the Witch-king, mounting campaigns against his Orcs, Trolls, and Easterlings. Those were the days of the Royal Army. Now only mercenaries and adventurers remain to block the advance of Darkness. The conflict rages on, but it is a war of pillaging, burning crops, and inconclusive sieges; war with little honor and no glory.

EXPLORE:

*THARBAD, greatest surviving work of the Númenórians
*LOND DAER ENEDH, Aldarion's ancient seaport
*BARAD GIRITHLIN, mighty tower of the Great Houses of Cardolan

Life is hard and unforgiving for the peoples of Cardolan. For those with ambition and a strong arm it is a time of opportunity. The Princes of Cardolan are always at war, and few mercenary bands ask for references. Sell-swords, noted for low pay and a high mortality rate, fuel the constant strife. For those with a higher purpose in mind, there is always the threat of the Witch-king and his agents. The mightiest of the these is the noxious Warlord whose demise few would lament.

Lost Realm of CARDOLAN includes:

*6 FULL-COLOR PAGES: 4 pages of Cardolan regional maps plus a 2 face city map of Tharbad
*MAJOR LAYOUTS: complete maps of Lond Daer Enedh during different periods, as well as the towns of Sudúri and Metraith, the fortresses of Argond and Barad Girithlin, and the Palace of Thalion
*THE INHABITANTS: the Dúnedain, Eriadorans, the Clansmen of Saralann, the Beffraen, and the Northmen and Hobbits

*9 layouts including villages & the Evil Seer's stronghold
*adventure near the Witch-King's western border
*search for the lost Palantiri in the frozen waste of Forochel

Cradled between the mighty Misty Mountains and the Blue, Arthedain is home to the faithful of fallen Numenor, once inhabited by the highest of men. Renowned seers gather at the Royal Court in Fornost to contemplate the obscure visions of the Palantir. To the east the Witch-King of Angmar is poised like a hungry wolf, anxious to devour the last remaining Dunedain Kingdom.

Against this threat stand a few whose noble heritage is obscured by the course clothing of the frontier. A secretive, wandering people are these Rangers; woodwise as Elves. Tutored by the Wizard Gandalf, and using birds and beasts as their agents, they guard and protect the eastern borders against the forces of Darkness.
For thousands of years, the Men of the West stood guard over the Black Land, ever vigilant to prevent the return of Sauron's might. The Great Plague has broken that watch, and evil stirs east of the Mountains of Shadow. Torchlight glares from arrow slits of once-abandoned citadels, and smoke unfurls from Orodruin's long quiet summit. Foul beasts move by night through cracks in the broken surface of Gorgoroth's volcanic plateau.
[... (Lenghty quote from The Return of the King)]

Minas Tirith documents the history, design, layout, garrison, and inhabitants of the Guarded City, preeminent symbol of the Free Peoples' struggle against Sauron of Mordor. The capital of Gondor commands the wide gap between the White Mountains and the Ephel Dúath that encircle the Dark Lord's fief. Its seven walls and levels seem to grow out of the mountains' stone, as if carved by giants.

Minas Tirith includes:
*A PAIR OF FULL-COLOR MAPS - each depicting half of the incredible City of the Guard. Beautifully rendered by the artist responsible for the maps of Endor's varried terrain.
*KEY LOCATIONS - the Great Gate where Gandalf halted the Lord of the Nazgûl, the Houses of Healing where Éowyn and Merry suffered under the Black Breath, and the Place of the Fountain in the High Court where Queen Arwen sang of Valinor.
*ROYALTY - Tarondor, his family, and the Kings who shaped the design of Minas Tirith.
*FLOORPLANS - detailing over forty edifices standing within the city walls: the Keylodge, the Great Bakery, the Waterwrights' Hall, the Rynd Permaith Iaur, and more.
*DENETHOR & HIS HEIRS - the Last Ruling Steward of Gondor and his sons, Boromir and Faramir.
*CITY LANDS - the Pelennor (the enclosed slopes and terraces surronding Minas Tirith), the banks of the Anduin upon which rest Harlond, the South-haven where river traffic docks, and the vales of the White Mountains, wild and alpine in character.
*ADVENTURES - confront a beguiling traitor, a false rebel, and a corrupt sorceress.

This volume of the Citadels of Middle-earth is a revised version of the sourcebook released in 1988. The revised Minas Tirith features a new city map - so large it requires two separate halves - and includes complete stats for the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game in addition to MERP and Rolemaster stats.

"There was a blow on the door that made it quiver; and then it began to grind slowly open, driving back the wedges. A huge arm and shoulder, with a dark skin of greenish scales, was thrust through the widening gap. Then a great flat, toeless foot was forced through below. There was dead silence outside." - The Fellowship of the Ring

Moria, the "Black Chasm," lies deep in the bowels of the Misty Mountains. Here Durin's Folk, the oldest of the Seven Dwarf-houses, sculpted the vast city and endless mines of Khazad-dûm, the largest fortress ever constructed by the Free Peoples. Its stairways climb to the starry heavens and descend to depths unknown and terrible; its countless bridges cross bottomless pits and enchanting canyons; and its wonderfully-embellished vaults guard untold riches, including mithril: the enchanted "true-silver," the most priceless of all metals. Shrouded by an unspeakable curse - a foul, wicked legacy of original evil - this awe-inspiring marriage of singular natural and Dwarf-made wonders presents one of the greatest settings for exploration and adventure in all of Endor.

MORIA includes:
*FULL-COLOR MAPS of Dimrill Dale, the headwaters of the Sirannon, and the spires above Moria: Redhorn, Cloudyhead, and Silvertine.
*CROSS-SECTION OF THE STRONGHOLD depicting the core of Khazad-dûm, its sprawling mines, its Deeps and Levels, the Endless Stair, and the unfathomed Under-deeps.
*STONE MAPS portraying the complex network of avenues, roads, accessways, and mineways that connect Moria's myriad armories, ceremonial chambers, dungeons, gathering halls, and treasures.
*KEY LOCATIONS - the hidden West-gate, outside the enchanted doors of which Gandalf searched his ancient memory for the word which would open the portal; the Chamber of Mazarbul where Frodo stabbed a Cave-troll with his blade Sting; and the Unending Well bridged by the narrow span where Gandalf confronted the Balrog.
*FLOORPLANS for the Second Hall of the First Deep, the East- and West-gate, the Chamber of Records, the King's Armory, the Cold-forge, the Balrog's Lair, etc.
*SMITHIES where precise recipes for smelting, fire-forging, and cold-forging produce ingots, coins, and artefacts of unparalleled quality.
*TRAPS - the perilous devices with which the Dwarves guard treasured or sacred places in their cavern home.
*6 ADVENTURES AND 3 EPISODES - confront treason amid the hotbed of political intrigue that comprises the royal court of Khazad-dûm under King Báin; accompany an aged Dwarf into abandoned Moria on an expedition seeking ancient treasures and heirlooms; learn the mystery of the Under-gates in the baffling Dwarven runes that hint at a Stone of Closing forged by Durin's Folk long ago.

This citadel module is a revision of ICE's acclaimed 1984 campaign sourcebook. Beside containing a host of new material covering everything from the wind-swept Redhorn Gate to the fiery Under-deeps, it provides statistics for MERP, Rolemaster, and the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game.
"They walked in single file. The entrance to the path was like the sort of arch leading into a gloomy tunnel made by two great trees that leant together, too old and strangled with ivy and hung with lichen to bear more than a few blackened leaves. The path itself was narrow and wound in and out among the trunks. Soon the light at the gate was like a little bright hole far behind, and the quiet was so deep that their feet seemed to thump along while all the trees leaned over them and listened." - The Hobbit, p. 139

Once named Greenwood the Great, the treeland then harbored starlight and song under its arching eaves. Only the northern woods now retain memories of the old splendor, and the elven magic guarding their borders has grown fey and perilous. The dread Necromancer inhabits Dol Guldur in tangled southern Mirkwood, and the whole forest cringes from his Shadow. Twisted hemlocks and soot-block webs shelter his minions and fell wild creatures.

Mirkwood is a reprint of the 1988 ICE campaign module titled Mirkwood, The Wilds of Rhovanion. This reprint as a realm piece features the excellence of the previous bestseller along with a number of new floorplans and illustrations. Mirkwood includes complete stats for MERP, the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game, and Rolemaster.

Mirkwood features:

*COLOR MAPS - two beautifully rendered maps depicting northern and southern Mirkwood, as well as the varied lands adjacent to the vast forest.
*RADAGAST & RHOSGOBEL - the master of shapes and hues and his wizardly home with its many woodland visitors.
*NORTHMEN - Beornings whose lords practice shape-shifting; Sairthéod in their tree-house village; Dalemen and Lakemen, descendants of the noble First-Age Edain; Woodmen who rove the forest in clans; and horse-loving Éothraim, ancestors of the Rohirrim.
*DWARVES OF THE IRON HILLS - the stalwart forefathers of Dáin Ironfoot who came to Thorin Oakenshield's aid at Erebor later in the Age.
*THE ELVES OF THRANDUIL'S HALLS - wood-wise folk who celebrate starlight, song, and the trees of the forest with feasting and harp music in scenic glens.
*CREATURES OF SHADOW - Dragons from the Withered Heath who fly south in search of prey; Great Spiders and their dark webs that reach from trunk to trunk; Stone Trolls who roam the Emyn-nu-Fuin; and wakeful trees with evil hearts and hostile boughs.
*MINIONS OF THE NECROMANCER - the Ringwraith who rules the Naked Hill; the Black Trolls who serve as the citadel's warlords; and the hordes of Orc-warriors who raid at their command.
*CULT OF THE LONG NIGHT - animistic shamans who revere darkness and teach its tenets on moonless nights.
*DARK SITES - Sarn Goriwing, the sorcerous tower dominating the headwaters of the Enchanted River; the Nan Morsereg, a vale harboring dark cults and nocturnal terrors; and the Gloom-spike, lofty home to a crazed seer.
"For at that time the realm of Angmar arose in the North beyond the Ettenmoors. Its lands lay on both sides of the Mountains and there were gathered many evil men, and Orcs, and other fell creatures. [The lord of that land was known as the Witch-king, but it was not known until later that he was indeed the chief of the Ringwraiths, who came north with the purpose of destroying the Dûnedain in Arnor, seeing hope in their disunion, while Gondor was strong.]" - The Return of the King, Appendix A

The Iron-home, domain of the Witch-king, is a cold, bleak land roamed by dark-robed Warrior Priests. These sinister wanderers oversee the slaves, soldiery, and Orcish tribes who serve the master of Carn Dûm. Fear is their whip-handle and shadow their wake. The sunshine of Angmar is thin, the bitterness of the climate lodges deep in both the land and its inhabitants. The Iron-home's chill darkness threatens not only neighboring Arthedain, successor kingdom of Arnor, but all the Free Peoples of Middle-earth.

Angmar is a reprint of the 1989 ICE campaign module titled Empire of the Witch-king. This reprint as a realm piece features the excellence of the previous bestseller along with a plethora of exquisite new illustrations. Angmar includes complete stats for MERP, the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game, and Rolemaster.

Angmar features:
*COLOR MAPS - depicting the northernmost arm of the Misty Mountains and the highland plateau of the Iron-home, as well as the great fortress Carn Dûm, the seat of the Witch-king's rule.
*ORC TRIBES - the disunified Orc army that comprises the vast majority of the Witch-king's war host; these troops are controlled by the terrible Olog warlord Rogrog and include the renowned Askai spearmen, the mail-coated Kurkurum, the cannibalistic Ulogarûm, the ritual-driven Uruk-lûgat, and many more.
*MORNATURI - the six deadly generals who govern the Witch-king's mannish warriors.
*GULMATHAUR - the three sinister High-priests who formulate strategies to subvert all of Endor to the worship of Darkness.
*CARN DÛM - the imposing mountain citadel of the Lord of Morgul presented in extensive floorplans accompanied by detailed descriptive text.
*ORC-HOLDS - maze-like tribal cavern complexes and fetid earthwork "palaces," such as suffocating Storugoruz and noisome Shartap-krûal.
*RUINS FROM THE ANCIENT DAYS - a sage's mound, a haunted mountain tarn, and a crumbling Dúnadan willa, all of which harbor hidden secrets from the distant past.
*ORKISH GLOSSARY - over 1000 Orkish words paired with their English translations.
*WARRIOR PRIESTS & ORC-FIGHTERS - rules for creating player-characters who operate under the Witch-king's iron rule.

Minas Tirith, the Guarded City, rises from the base of Mount Mindolluin. Capital of Gondor, it is the preeminent symbol of the struggle against Sauron of Mordor. No other city in western Middle-earth offers greater hope for the defense of the Free Peoples.

Minas Tirith commands the wide gap between the White Mountains and the Mountains of Shadow that encircle the Dark Lord's homeland. Its seven walls and seven levels seem to grow out of the stone, as if carved by Giants. Each tier of the Royal City wraps around the rock and looms above the surrounding quarter, its ramparts glimmering white with each sunrise.

High atop the capital, on the uppermost level, the Tower of Ecthelion reaches skyward like a pearl-and-crystal spire. Amidst the storm spawned by the Lord of the Rings, this citadel is the last hold in Minas Tirith, an unparalleled bastion in an ominous time.

MINAS TIRITH features:

*A double sided 16" x 20" full-color mapsheet
*40 pages of floorplans and layouts
*Detailed descriptions of key locations in the city
*Complete overviews of Minas Tirith's seven levels, the Pelennor, and the port of Harlond
*Descriptions of Boromir, Faramir, Denethor, and other famous figures

"Not far from the mouth of the Forest River was the strange town he heard the Elves speak of in the king's cellars. It was not built on the shore, though there were a few huts and buildings there, but right out on the surface of the lake, protected from the swirl of the entering river by a promontory of rock which formed a calm bay. A great bridge made of wood ran out to where on huge piles made of forest trees was built a busy wooden town, not a town of elves but of Men, who still dared to dwell here under the shadow of the distant dragon-mountain. They still throve on the trade that came up the great river from the South and was carted past the falls to their town; but in the great days of old, when Dale in the North was rich and prosperous, they had been wealthy and powerful, and there had been fleets of boats on the waters, and some were filled with gold and some with warriors in armour, and there had been wars and deeds which were now only a legend..." - The Hobbit

Explore the Northron settlement where Bilbo and the Dwarves were feasted and supplied during their journey toward Smaug the Dragon! Moor your boat at the town's quays, search for exotic goods from the East in the stalls of its Great Wharf, or witness the changing of its formidable Bridge Guard accompanied by the retrieval of the hlaestingas, the collected trade tariffs.

Lake-town presents this mercantile center in all its vivid bustle, including craft associations, the burg's coiner, drihten who collects the tools, and smugglers. An introductory adventure followed by a two-part mini-campaign draws player characters into the watery labyrinth amidst the piles below the town's wooden streets and out into the wild lands surrounding the Long Lake. In the aftermath of the Plague, Orcs and Trolls and Undead have the upper hand in the Wilds. Keep you hand on your sword hilt, if you venture far from Esgaroth! Lake-town includes complete stats for MERP and Rolemaster.

Lake-town includes:
*COLOR MAP - depicting the Northron settlement in vivid hues.
*THE BODY IN THE WATER - acquaint yourself with Lake-town by paddling through the forest of piers supporting the town's platform in search for the link between the charnel house corpse and a barrel of spilled barley.
*HISTORY - from the days of quaint stilt-houses, through the years of the "Reed-delving", the Great Plague, and the Wainrider onslaught, to the Golden Age when Dwarves brought the trade and wealth that tempted the Dragon Smaug to fly south to the Long Lake.
*THE MAESTA OF ESGAROTH - the Master who treats with Lake-town's enemies and allies and mediates between disputing craft edfreahir.
*LAKE-FOLK - Bedarof the Guard-lord, Saewis the Boat-wright, Bogatung the Wyrdwoman, Hildagrippa of the Erannun Inn, and many more.
*HIGH-HOUSES, GROGHALLS, & WARESTORES - the buildings that stand on the immense platform supporting Lake-town, presented in over 40 detailed maps and floorplans.
*TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE - venture into the Wilds surrounding Lake-town to confront a most unusual Half-troll and her voracious appetite; then race against the Cruel One of the Woad.
Home of Legolas and Thranduil.

The palatial Halls of the Elven-king cut deep into a hill in northeastern Mirkwood. Facing southward, the main doors of this wondrous delving look onto a stone bridge that spans the swift-flowing Forest River. This strategic crossing joins the great Woodland Realm ruled by King Thranduil to the north with the haunted woods to the south.

Besides guarding the bridge, the fortified subterranean palace serves as both the capital to the Wood-elves and gateway into Northern Mirkwood. Here the Elven-king greets the rare travelers who journey westward. Few sojourn beyond the Halls, however, for the Woodland Realm remains an enchanted land shrouded in mystery and threatened by the dark forces spawned by the Lord of the Rings.

HALLS OF THE ELVEN-KING features:

*Over 20 pages of layouts, perspectives, and illustrations.
*A complete cutaway view of the Elven-king's underground City.
*Room by room descriptions and adventure suggestions.
*Background and stats for Thranduil, Legolas, and the Elven garrison.

"As for the Hobbits of the Shire, with whom these tales are concerned, in the days of their peace and prosperity they were a merry folk. They dressed in bright colors, being notably fond of yellow and green; but they seldom wore shoes, since their feet had tough leathery soles and were clad in thick curling hair, much like the hair of their heads, which was commonly brown... Their faces were good-natured rather than beautiful, broad, bright-eyed, red-cheeked, with mouths apt to laughter, and to eating and drinking. And laugh they did, and eat, and drink, often and heartily, being fond of simple jests at all times... They were hospitable and delighted in parties, and in presents, which they gave away freely and eagerly accepted." - The Fellowship of the Ring, Prologue

The Hobbits of the Shire did not always dwell in peace and prosperity. Their beginnings in the Glennen were characterized by frugal living, hidden residences, and terror of the Necromancer's growing presence. Crossing the Misty Mountains to escape his Shadow, they encountered the arrogance and ridicule of Men along with all the perils of the wide world. The Shire was granted to the Halflings by King Argeleb II as their new homeland, but even then they faced strife from within and without. The Hobbit tribes of the Tooks, Pendles, and the Bucks were at odds continuously. And the Lords of House Tarma coveted the Halfling territory. Adventurers who visit the Shire will need to keep their blades loose in the scabbard - feuding Hobbit clans, proud and greedy nobles, strange remnants from the Eldar Days, and roving bandits all threaten the unwary. The Shire includes complete stats for MERP, the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game, and Rolemaster.

The Shire features:
*COLOR MAPS - vivid renditions of the Shire in 1640 and 3018.
*THE GLENNEN - the mountain slopes and river vales where the Hobbits first lifted their faces to the sun, paddled their cockle-boats, and shrank from the Shadow that gathered in the East.
*SIRAGALË - the rolling hills, that would one day become the Shire, but first were roamed by the Sirannar, a reclusive branch of the Nando Elves.
*THE SHIRE GRANT - an account of the unique political tangle that culminated in the gift of the Shire to the Hobbits from Arthadan King Argeleb II.
*THE SHIRE OF BILBO'S DAY - that pocket of tranquility guarded secretly by the Rangers of the North.
*THE TOOK-THAINS - the chieftains of that adventuresome family of Hobbits from whose lineage sprang Bilbo and Frodo.
*HOBBITS - the renowned heroes Merry, Pippin, and Sam, as well as more anonymous personalities with an equal measure of bravery, Kocho Kurl, Molly Boffin, Gresham Shaper, and others.
*SITES - smials and hamlets of the Hobbits, tree-garths of the dwindling Sirannar, and manors of the Dúnedain.
*ADVENTURES - join the Periwott Halflings in their struggle with unexpected guests: an Orc ambush camped on their doorstep; discover the malevolent aims of the "Nackers," bogies with sharp fangs and claws who haunt the nights in the Marish; learn the origins of the great wolf that witnesses riots and stonings, proof that the passions of the Eldar Days still breath their peril into the tame lands of even the Shire.

Almost everything about the Northmen changed with their acquisition of horses: their hunting methods, their religious focus, their relations with other Men - Men who did not possess horses. Their attitude to the Dark Lord, however, remained unchanged. They despised him and his creations, and all evil Men who worshipped darkness ... and they still distrusted magic and magicians, no matter what side they claimed to be on.
RIDERS OF ROHAN includes:

Welcome to forest called Fangorn, bordered on the east by the Wold, and on the west by the high peaks of the southern Misty Mountains. Here dwell the Ents, a strange and fascinating race. Slow to anger, and yet fearsome when enraged, these huge tree-like folk are among Middle-earth's most powerful beings. As tree-herds, they nurture and watch over this magical realm.

EXPLORE:

*THE DERNDINGLE, site of the Entmoots
*WELLINGHALL, home of Treebeard, leader of the Ents
*THE FORTRESS OF TIR LIMLIGHT

Fangorn is a sheltered land containing an isolated society rooted in an ancient atmosphere. Its eerie environment is well suited to the myriad trees that reside here under the watchful eyes of their Ent guardians. Like the Old Forest of Eriador, Fangorn is a remnant of the forest which once covered Middle-earth.

ENTS OF FANGORN includes:

*4 FULL-COLOR PAGES: a 2 page spread of Fangorn, the southern Misty Mountains, and Dunland, plus a 1 page view of the area to the east (including the Wold and Dol Guldur region) and a map of Lorien, which lies to the north
*MAJOR LAYOUTS: detailed maps of Wellinghall, the Falls of Mist, the Town and Fortress of Tir Limlight, and the Caverns of Pain
*THE ENTS OF FANGORN: powerful tree-herds
*THE BARZ THRUGRIM: a treacherous band that threatens travels through the Wold

INTRODUCTION

This work focuses upon the huge woodland that lies along the southeastern flank of the Misty Mountains (S. "Hithaeglir"). This sylvan realm is commonly called Fangorn (S. "Beard of the Tree") after the great Ent that Men know as "Treebeard." Fives speak of the forest as Tauremorna (Q. "Black Forest"), while the Men of Rohan call it simply "Entwood." Ambarona (Q. "Land of Doom") is the shortened Entish name.

OVERVIEW

Fangorn is a sheltered land containing an isolated society rooted in a unique atmosphere. Time follows a different path beneath the forest's huge, dark boughs, proceeding at a pace which is too slow for mortal comprehension. It is an eerie environment suited to the ancient and myriad Olvar that reside here under the watchful eye of their Ent guardians. Like the Old Forest of Eriador, Fangorn is a remnant of a forest which once covered most of western Middle-earth, a wood nearly as old as Endor itself. Every plant, stream, stone, and plot of soil within its bounds embodies this heritage and seems to breathe with a special quality of life. Nothing in Fangorn is inanimate.

Fangorn Forest stretches for about a hundred and twenty-five miles across a shelf of land that overlooks northwestern Calenardhen (Rohan). One hundred miles in breadth at its widest point, its western reaches tuck into the narrow canyons of the Misty Mountains' eastern face. The peaks bar travel through Fangorn's remote western border, so the forest looks toward the lowlands. Even here, however, the forest is sheltered by the surrounding terrain. Two rivers - the Limlaith to the north, and the Onodlo in the south - flow just inside Fangorn's borders, and the rugged, dry hills of the Weld stand vigil to the east.

Fangorn is always an apparent constant in the face of the turmoil that engulfs the surrounding regions. An enchanted place, its legends deter invaders, shrouding the wood in an unassailable aura. So, while the areas along its borders experience a constant state of flux, the Entwood remains a mysterious bastion. As people move in and out of the neighboring territories - their ways of life coming and going, their towns erected and ruined - none bother the dark, tree-covered realm. Trade routes avoid the forest, and no sign of normal settlement mars Fangorn's landscape. It is a strange, seemingly wild island amidst the civilizations of northwestern Middle-earth.

Despite its isolation, though, Fangorn is strategically placed. The easiest north-south route between the river Anduin and the Mountains of Mist skirts the Entwood's eastern boundary, while the Isen Gap (Gap of Rohan) lies nearby. Only sixty miles to the southwest, the Isen Fords link the best roads between Eriador and the rest of Endor, lending this portal profound value. The most important major road of the civilized world crosses through the wide, grassy pass and joins mighty Gondor with the lands to the west of the Misty Mountains. So, while events in Fangorn generally remain outside of others' histories, the forest witnesses many of the most significant wars and migrations near the southern Hithaeglir. Of course, during the War of the Ring that raged during the last days of the Third Age, events actually drew the Ents and Huorns that rule the wood into the great struggle.

The citadel of Isengard was built by the Númenórians in a sheltered valley at the southern limits of the Misty Mountains. Its main purpose was to defend the gap of Calenardhon and the Fords of Isen against attacks by Sauron's forces. Self-sufficient and enchanted, it later became the virtually impregnable fortress of Saruman the White. No spire in Middle-earth was stronger, save the Dark Tower of Mordor.
Moria: The Dwarven City is a supplement (in the Campaign-series) for Middle-earth Role Playing, 1st Edition. For use with this supplement, Mithril Miniatures released a set of metal miniatures (M155 - M164 Durin's Dwarves).

Cover/Jacket Text
This package details all of the DWARVEN CITY OF KHAZAD-DUM and includes 7 Deeps (levels and sublevels) maps and cross-section diagrams of both the city and the mines, diagrams of traps, machines and forging implements, large-scale detailed floorplans of specific areas: the Chamber of Marzarbul, the Endless Stair, Durin's Bridge, and the Entry Halls, information on Durin's tribe, three Orc tribes, the many creatures who later inhabit Moria, and, of course, the BALROG.

Deep within the bowels of the central Misty Mountains lies Moria, the "Black Chasm". Here stood Khazad-Dum (Kh. "Dwarf-mansion") the kingdom of the noblest Lord of the Seven Tribes of Dwarves, a city sculpted from rock and embellished by the finest hall-builders of their day. Within its recesses Durin's folk mined precious metals and discovered mithril, the "true-silver".

Now its chambers are dark and its builders gone. Tales speak of a Balrog, a "Demon of Might" which once served the Black Enemy Morgoth.

Bats and wolves and deadly traps await those daring few who seep the treasures buried deep in the still, dank chambers of the Black Chasm.

GORGOROTH includes:

*11" x 17" FULL-COLOR MAP depicting the plateau of Gorgoroth.
*2 FULL-COLOR CITY MAPS (on the reverse of the terrain map) showing Ostigurth, the City of Death, where new recruits to the Dark Lord's forces are indoctrinated , and Bar Lithyrn, a Gondorian mining town on the northern slopes of the Ash Mountains.

Far to the south of the warring realms of Gondor and Mordor, lies an area of harsh winds and blazing sun known to its inhabitants Bozisha-Miraz. It encompasses the lower half of the great desert of Haradwaith, and area labeled Far Harad on the maps of the northern world. Its watering holes and seaports teem with trade and intrigue - its wilds hold ancient mysteries and untold dangers. Though the region is little more than arid highlands, tortured canyons, and a half-score of oases, adventure and high-living await you under the southern sun of Far Harad.

Adventurers find Far Harad rich with challenge. In the port city of Dar, hired swords are always in demand. The vast desert looms ominously with its secretive population of Sandmen and natural hardship. Men tell of entire cities swallowed by the Dune Sea. Ghosts and demons are said to walk the shifting land, guarding treasures beyond imagination. All this and more await the brave in the Scorched Land.
FAR HARAD The Scorched Land includes:

*4 FULL-COLOR MAPS covering the region and two major cities: Dir Halon and Caras Pharazôn
*A 4-PAGE CITY MAP of the great trade center of Bozisha-Dar.
*MAJOR LAYOUTS: detailed layouts of a key fortress, Gusar's Djebel; the oasis of Sud Sicanna, and other adventure sites.
*IN DEPTH INFORMATION on cultures, people, creatures, treasures, politics, and warcraft found in the deserts of Southern Middle-earth.
*BACKGROUND AND STATISTICAL INFORMATION for key figures like the 7-regent councilors of Bozisha-Dar, Haradan warriors, and the accursed desert minions of the Lord of the Rings.

BACKGROUND

"It is ever so with the things that men begin: there is a frost in Spring or a blight in Summer, and they fail of their promise" (LotR III, p.182).

Elendil and his heirs arranged two kingdoms when they came to Middle-earth from Numenor; Gondor in the South, and Arnor in the North. Both were fair and prosperous kingdoms at the beginning of the Third Age. At this time the history of the two kingdoms parted; the star of Gondor rose, but that of Arnor fell into darkness. Two forces brought the destruction of the North Kingdom. The first was the waning of the Dunedain who dwelt in Arnor. The second, and far greater was the shadow that came from the land of Angmar. The men of Arnor withstood the evil power of the Witch King for six long centuries, a tribute to the strength and power of the Dunedain of the North.

Arnor had suffered comparatively little in the war against Sauron at the conclusion of the Second Age, and the kingdom should have prospered. Although the numbers of the Dunedain had been reduced, they were still great. The climate of Arnor was mild and the land was fertile and free of enemies. For a few hundred years matters went well, but the air of Eriador seemed unwholesome for the descendants of Numenor. Arnor fell into decline long before the land held any whisper of the shadow of Angmar. For reasons unknown the Dunedain abandoned their capital of Annuminas upon the shores of Lake Nennuial, and withdrew to the lesser fortress city of Fornost.

The kingdom of Arnor was doomed to "a frost in Spring, and a blight in Summer." The heirs of the kingdom could no longer agree on the succession to the throne of Arnor in the ninth century of the Third Age. In 861 the strength of the northern realm was divided into three kingdoms: Cardolan, Rhudaur, and Arthedain. The quarreling continued; Rhudaur and Cardolan contested the possession of the tower of Amon Sul and its Palantir. The watch on evil slept in the north; men turned inwards and concerned themselves with their own affairs. The rumours of evil multiplying in the mountains did not interest them; for Arthedain and Cardolan at least, the mountains were a long way off. None gave their attention to the unpromising valley in a northern fork of the Misty Mountains.

The Witch King arose in Angmar during the realm of Malvegil of Arthedain, some time between 1272-1349. Men became aware of the growing evil in the mountains, but Angmar was still preparing its power. No assaults on the Dunedain came until Argeleb, the son of Malvegil, assumed the throne.

The next sixty years were dark ones for the Dunedain of the North. The Dunedain of Rhudaur were driven out by evil hillmen in league with Angmar and Argeleb was slain in battle. Together Arthedain and Cardolan held the Weather Hills against Angmar. In 1409 TA the Witch King of Angmar released his deadliest assault. Amon Sul was raised and burned and the Dunedain were forced to flee westward. Cardolan was laid to waste. Help came to the Dunedain from the Elves of the Grey Havens, Rivendell, and Lorien. The armies of Angmar were repelled from Fornost and the North Downs, and forced to withdraw to Angmar. The shadow of the North was contained for a time.

ANGMAR

The land of Angmar is one of the grimmest places in all of Middle-earth. It is not black and twisted like Mordor, but heartbreakingly cold and barren. It lies in a northern fork in the Western Misty Mountains, and in the Eastern Misty Mountains. Little activity is centered upon the barren plain between the fork in the mountains; the border guard of men is set in the rolling hills upon the edge of the low plateau. These men watch the long border road that runs from Carn Dûm to the southern tip of Angmar. The orcs prefer the safety of the tunnels in the mountains. In the East the Witch King has no border guard; the mountains bar entry into Angmar from that direction, except to those who know the orcish tunnels.

This product details the major trading city west of the Misty Mountains, a city teeming with cutthroats and thieves. Rescue the Princess of Cardolan's stolen tiara and help break up the complex smuggling ring.

Tharbad was founded in the Second Age by Tar-Aldarion as an inland port for his fleet to use while exploring the interior of Middle-earth... Its broad avenues, public parks and well laid out streets were the envy of other northern cities, for Tharbad was built by the Numenorians at the height of their power. However the years have not been kind to Tharbad... Although much grandeur remains, most sections of the city have fallen into decay.
