Summary
This painting by Garland portrays the beautiful green landscape of Hobbiton that most think of. Curiously, the painting does give The Shire a very mountainous feel. If Hobbiton had looked like this, Merry probably wouldn't have felt crushed by "the insupportable weight of Middle-earth" when he looked upon the mountains as he rode in Rohan's company. However, the beauty of the artist's depiction of Bag End alone validates the work.
