Summary
From the Ted Nasmith Art Shop Facebook page:
I'm happy to present my latest commission, "The Ships of the Faithful II"; It takes a broader view of the great calamity which brought down Numenor in Tolkien's great tale. Here, unlike the vertical night scene created for The Silmarillion illustrated book, I've gone back to the source texts, and now am giving it a more John Martinesque approach; a more panoramic glimpse of the great earthquakes and crashing down of land masses as Eru's Sacred Mountain, the Meneltarma, unleashes its hidden fury in volcanic form.
It is a day scene, since the destruction took several days and nights, allowing me to detail land forms and render the heaving ocean the deep green the tale describes. The small flotilla is sailing for their lives amid unimaginable upheaval, the lone remnant of loyalists, now escapees of the dark realm the once great kingdom had become, to its doom.
