Gostir was the name of one of the Dragons of Morgoth,[1] about whom almost nothing is known except that they possessed a dragon-name[1] which had evolved from the older name Gorsthir.[2]
Etymology
Gostir means "dread-glance" in Noldorin, from gost ("dread, terror")[1] and thîr ("look, face, expression, countenance"), as well as the root THĒ, meaning "look (see or seem)".[2]

Portrayal in adaptations
Middle-earth Role Playing
- Gostir appears as a white Cold-drake with red eyes who dwells north of Rhûn in Barl Syrnac in the Creatures of Middle-earth supplement of Middle-earth Role Playing. Gostir was said to be the older brother of Lhamthanc.
