Bêl is a verb stem which means "to befriend" or "to love" in Adûnaic.[1][2][3]
Etymology

- Belzagar could be an Adûnaic translation of the Quenya word Calmacil, which means "Light-sword".[4] In this case bêl could mean "light". It is not clear whether Tolkien changed the meaning of bêl at some point, or whether these two meanings co-exist[5][6].
- Azrubêl from Azar ("sea") and the stem -bêl, translates to "Sea-lover"[1][7][3].
