EXIT: The Game – The Lord of the Rings: Shadows Over Middle-earth is a cooperative escape room-style board game published by KOSMOS in 2022. Designed by Inka and Markus Brand, the game adapts the award-winning EXIT: The Game formula to J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy universe, placing players in the role of hobbits carrying out secret missions for the wizard Gandalf to aid Frodo's quest to destroy the One Ring.
Gameplay
The game uses the classic EXIT system, where players solve interconnected puzzles using a combination of cards, a riddle booklet, and a decoder disk. Each puzzle solution produces a three-symbol code that players enter into the decoder wheel to reveal the corresponding answer card number. If correct, players receive new materials and advance the story; if incorrect, they must continue working on the puzzle.
