Elfenomeno.com

From Tolkien Gateway

Elfenomeno.com is a leading Spanish-language website dedicated to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Launched in 1999, it has become a significant resource for fans, researchers, and students of Tolkien’s legendarium. The site offers a wide range of content, including news, articles, an extensive online encyclopedia called the Fenopaedia, an interactive Map of Middle-Earth and a section of FAQs that has inspired published works.

History

Elfenomeno.com was established in 1999 by founder Leandro Pascual, joined later by a group of Tolkien enthusiasts who aimed to create a comprehensive Spanish resource for exploring Tolkien’s world. Over the years, it has grown to become a key reference point for Spanish-speaking fans, even becoming part of the renowned TheOneRing.net community[1]. The Fenopaedia, an ambitious online encyclopedia project, was launched in June 2004, pre-dating the creation of Tolkien Gateway. Another notable achievement is the publication of the book Tolkien: Preguntas frecuentes (y no tan frecuentes), which originated from the site’s FAQ section and was published by Editorial Minotauro, the official publisher of Tolkien’s works in Spain.

Elfenomeno.com celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024 [2] with a complete redesign of the website, incorporating modern frameworks, improved mobile compatibility, and enhanced user experience features. The site’s relaunch included updated functionalities, such as genealogical trees for all the characters in the encyclopedia[3], Chronicles of the Middle-earth[4] and expanded social media presence.

In October 2026 most of the contents of the website were translated to English, including the interactive Map, the online encyclopaedia, news and all articles since 2024.
