Embracer Group is the parent company of businesses developing and publishing games. With its head office based in Karlstad, Sweden, Embracer Group has a global presence through its ten operative groups: THQ Nordic, Plaion, Coffee Stain, Amplifier Game Invest, Saber Interactive, DECA Games, Gearbox Entertainment, Easybrain, Asmodee (the owner of Fantasy Flight Games[1]), and Dark Horse. The Group has 120 internal game development studios and is engaging more than 12,750 employees and contracted employees in more than 40 countries.[2]

In 2022 the company acquired Middle-earth Enterprises which included the licensing rights to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings .[2]

In 2025, after a failed investment deal, Embracer Group split up many of its holdings. In particular among these Asmodee, a massive French board game publisher that was one of Embracer's subsidiaries, was spun out into its own separate company: Asmodee Group AB. Later that year, Middle-earth Enterprises announced that Asmodee had become the exclusive category manager for all MEE-licensed tabletop games.[3]

On May 20, 2026 Embracer announced they would be spinning off Fellowship Entertainment, a new company that will be the steward for the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit properties (alongside many other non-Tolkien properties)[4]. In addition to the new company, Middle-earth Enterprises was also re-organized under the Fellowship Entertainment umbrella.
