In Middle-earth Role Playing, the Ered Rhívamar (S. “Edge of the World Mountains”) were a mountain range in the Northern Waste. Its most dangerous spur was the Ered Úmarth (S. “Mountains of Ill-fate”), which surrounded the valley of Evermist. They were inhabited by Snow-trolls and Ice-drakes.[1]
The mountain range was separated from Ekkaia to the north by Gondalf (S. “Stone Tundra”), a plateau that was known as Angband's Threshold in the First Age and which collapsed after the War of Wrath. It was inhabited by the Jäämiehet, a hardy clan of Lossoth.[2]
To the south, the mountain range was separated from Spouting Bay and Berg Cradle Bay by the peninsula of Minheldolath (S. “Between the Bergs”). Protected from the northern storms by the mountain range, and warmed by the by the surrounding waters, it was a fairly temperate peninsula that greened in the summer. It too was inhabited by the Jäämiehet, as well as by another more nomadic clan known as the Merimetsästäjät.[3]
