First Age 457 (abbreviated to F.A. 457) is the 457th year of the Sun of the First Age of Middle-earth.
Notable events in this year include:
- Minas Tirith upon Tol Sirion is captured by Sauron, who makes the island his residence; it becames renamed Tol-in-Gaurhoth, "Isle of Werewolves". Although defeated, Orodreth is saved by Celegorm and Curufin; they escape to Nargothrond together.[1][2]
Other versions of the legendarium
According to The Grey Annals, the capture of Minas Tirith by Sauron took place in F.A. 455, even before Fingolfin was slain in his last stand against Morgoth.[3] However, Christopher Tolkien eventually did not include this change in the chronology into the published Silmarillion, preferring an earlier version from The Later Annals of Beleriand.
