First Age 540 (abbreviated to F.A. 540) is the 540th year of the Sun of the First Age of Middle-earth.
Notable events in this year include:
- Morgoth sends against Maedhros and Maglor, who dwell in hiding atop Amon Ereb, and the last remaining Sons of Fëanor flee to the Isle of Balar.[1]
- The last free Elves and Men flee to the Isle of Balar.[2] Now all land of Beleriand is in Morgoth's hold.[1]
