Forfalas was the northern half of the region of Falas, located south of Nevrast, and northwest of Eglamar.[1][2]
The region of Forfalas was marked on the Second 'Silmarillion' Map,[1] which formed the basis for the map of Beleriand in the published Silmarillion.[3]
However, apart from being labeled on the aforementioned map, Forfalas was never mentioned again, nor did it appear in any of the narratives, annals or essays set in the First Age.[2]
Etymology
The name Forfalas is in Sindarin, meaning "North Falas". It is a combination of the prefixal form for- ("north") + falas ("shore").[4]
