Aerie. I can confirm that the term 'Aerie' certainly was of Bilbo's invention, as suggested on the page dealing with this subject. In the 1970s I wrote to Professor Tolkien about some points that had intrigued me in 'The Adventures of Tom Bombadil' and I asked about the mention of Aerie there. Professor Tolkien was kind enough to reply - in a letter long since lost, alas! - and he confirmed that Aerie was "mere Bilbonic invention". —Unsigned comment by NickF (talk • contribs).
