Hello! I notice that a few users have some of their favourite quotes on their user pages. Perhaps an idea going forward would be to pool the best of these quotes together somewhere and to select a random quote from this pool to be the "Featured Quote" on the Main Page (perhaps weekly at first, then more frequently dependent upon how quickly the pool of good quotes grows) in an automated manner. I suppose there is the question of what constitutes a "good" quote, but I see that there is a pretty good criteria given here. Of course this an idea for when the admins are more active. I suppose the same could be done for "Featured Article" on the Main Page too, but the "vetting process" for Featured Articles would likely be longer and take more time than for the "Featured Quote". (I recently made a note of this idea on my user page before noticing that this is probably a better place for it, so apologies for posting the same thing in two different places!) --GondolinFan 08:27, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi! You can discuss specific topics in their talkpage, but it's fine to discuss this in the Forum. I propose you all: I'll use one of the current nominated quotes for the next featured quote (so go vote for your favourite), which I'll change with the new year's coming. Then we can blank the page, as it is kinda a mess, so you will be more free to nominate a new quote. Same with the featured article. I'll try to update the Main Page every four months or so. But idk, maybe I should be more practical and do as Mith in the past years, changing the MP based in my own criteria. I'd also wish we can simplify all the Featured stuff, specially the Archives: any proposals? --LorenzoCB 15:08, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
I’m not sure what the best method for the Archives would be, but we have enough users that we might have some luck in drawing attention to the voting process, at least for quotes. If not, I would be happy if LorenzoCB (congrats on the new adminship!) wanted to choose the featured things based on his own judgement. At present, I think the Featured Quote Nomination page is still protected, as it won’t let me edit. --Grace18 17:24, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
I didn't notice it was protected. I changed it so only registered users can edit it. Let me know if it works. --LorenzoCB 17:28, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Looks like it's working now. Thank you! --Grace18 17:42, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks LorenzoCB, and congrats on becoming an admin! It looks like I can also edit the Featured Quote Nomination page now. Your plan for the Main Page (MP) sounds good (changing every four or so months). I'd also trust your judgement in changing it based on your own criteria - this way, the MP can be changed a bit more often (I think it would be good for users to see the MP changing every now and then since it shows its an active Wiki). A suggestion for simplifying the Archives is as follows. I think we only need to archive the quotes themselves (or in the case of Featured Articles, the article titles themselves), and not necessarily the discussion surrounding whether or not to vote in said article/quote. Perhaps we could follow a similar structure that Wikipedia uses (linked here) (simply list the previous Featured Articles with the main picture and a snippet of the intro of each article if this is simple to do?). I think it is wise to note rejected articles/quotes, but this should not stop a future nomination if the quality of the article is improved in the future. --GondolinFan 18:03, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Just to confirm, I protected it - deliberately - because having more nominated quotes we can't actually use on the homepage without people voting on the dozens we've already got isn't actually helpful. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:19, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
