Forums:Http not redirecting to https

From Tolkien Gateway

I see that https seems to work (?) when directly inputting it into the URL, but Google still has everything for TG listed as http. Also, http doesn't redirect to https, which I'm guessing is the reason for Google still using old http links. This is hurting the pagerank for all of TG's articles, which might be one reason why the Fandom articles are usually on top these days. Would it be possible to make it so http URLs redirect to the https versions automatically so everyone (including search engines) is using https when accessing TG? --Oromë 18:10, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

A bit of a delayed reply, but thought I'd add something just in case someone stumbles upon this post. Great point! TG now defaults to https and redirects all requests from http to https. We also redirect any www requests to the non-www equivalent for consistency. Google's results now reflect the https URL so I'm sure they have given us a few more brownie points. For anyone curious from a technical perspective we are using Cloudflare as our CDN and are encrypting from not only the client to Cloudflare but also from Cloudflare to our web/database servers. --Hyarion 02:03, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
