Galadhon was a noble Elf of Doriath, the son of Elmo and thus the nephew of King Thingol and Olwë. Little is known of him, except for the fact that he was father to Celeborn, later Lord of Lórien, and Galathil, father of Nimloth.[1]

Etymology

His name is Sindarin and appears to be a combination of galadh ("tree") + -on (masculine suffix).[2]

Other versions of the legendarium

According to one late version of the legendarium, the father of Celeborn is named Gilitīro, a Telerin[note 1] Elf of Aman. The name is in Telerin, meaning "starwatcher". Its Sindarin equivalent is Gildír.[3]

Notes

  1. This article assumes that Gilitīro was a Teler of Aman due to the fact that his name was given in Telerin first.
