George William Tolkien (1805 – 1877) was the oldest of eleven children of George Tolkien (1784 - 1840) and Eliza Lydia Murrell (1787 - 1863). His younger brother, John Benjamin Tolkien (1807 – 1896), the second oldest of the siblings, was the grandfather of J.R.R. Tolkien. In many sources George William's father George is referred as "George William Tolkien", but according to the documents where his name appears, this is an error.[1]
