The Gliding Water was the name of a river passing through Kortirion, according to the early version of the legendarium associated with The Book of Lost Tales.[1] It is only mentioned in an early version of the poem The Trees of Kortirion.
According to the poem, elms grew about it, and it flowed westward from Kortirion, passing through meadows before reaching the sea.[1]
Inspiration
The Gliding Water might have been inspired by the river Avon, which flows through the town of Warwick, the main inspiration behind the city of Kortirion.[2]
Other versions of the legendarium
In later reworkings of the poem, the river was called the River Gliding instead.[3]
