DescriptionTributary to the Anduin

Greylin was a river of the far north of Middle-earth.

The Greylin rose in the western Grey Mountains and flowed south-westward to meet the Langwell and together they formed the source of the Great River, Anduin.[1]

History

Between the two rivers was the Éothéod built Framsburg, their capital.[2]

Etymology

The second element of the name derives from Old English hlynn or "torrent", although its literal meaning was probably "the noisy one".[3]

Portrayals in adaptations

2020: The Lord of the Rings Online:

Greylin originates in the region of "Elderslade" which lies to the east of Gundabad. It flows south through several waterfalls, the largest of them being "the Reikfoss of Greylin". Along with the two falls of Langwell from the same height, the Reikfoss raises a large cloud of mist into the air, giving the surrounding area its name: "Misthallow". The two rivers join past Framsburg, forming the Great River.
