The honey-cakes of the Beornings[1] were a type of waybread baked by Beorn himself[2] and later by the Beornings.[1] Although their exact recipe was a secret, it is known that they were twice-baked and made with honey. They remained good to eat for a long time and were very nutritious and quite tasty, although they caused thirst.[2]

History

Beorn provided Thorin and Company for their journey through Mirkwood with honey-cakes, alongside other provisions.[2]

At the time of the War of the Ring the Beornings were not very willing to share their cakes with travellers, although Gimli had tasted their honey-cakes and considered the Beornings the best bakers that he knew of. However, after tasting Elvish lembas he decided that lembas was even better.[1]
