Lindenroot[1] was an Ent who attended the final Entmoot of the Third Age and fought in the Battle of Isengard.

Lindenroot is an original creation for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers film.

History

Lindenroot was an Ent shepherd. He was considered well-founded and considerate.

Late in the Third Age, an Entmoot was called to decide whether the Ents would go to war with Saruman the White and the forces of Isengard. Lindenroot entered Derndingle, the location of the Entmoot, walking on the right of Birchseed. Among the Ents in attendance were Lindenroot, Treebeard, Birchseed, Quickbeam, Skinbark and Leaflock.

The Entmoot commenced and the Ents communicated in Old Entish. They greeted each other with "Good morning" and agreed that Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took, two small beings found by Treebeard were not Orcs. Merry tried to hurry the Entmoot, as Old Entish was a very slow language compared to the Westron spoken by Hobbits. Eventually, the Ents decided they could not hold back Saruman and it was a better course of action to remain impartial. Treebeard remarked that it was not their war. Merry protested asking "You're part of this world! Aren't you?". The Ents looked at each other, unsure. Merry pleaded for their help but Treebeard told him that their part in the tale was over.

While Treebeard walked Merry and Pippin to the edge of the forest, Merry asked him to take him past Isengard. When Treebeard saw the trees and plants near Isengard decimated by Saruman for supplies, he cried out in pain, calling the Ents. Lindenroot and the other Ents began marching toward Isengard. Treebeard proclaimed "The Ents are going to war" and that, as it was unlikely they'd survive, it was the "last march of the Ents".

The Ents assailed Isengard, fighting the defending Uruk-hai off as Saruman watched from Orthanc in terror. Treebeard ordered some Ents to break the dam, which released the river into Isengard, washing away the Uruks. The Ents achieved victory in the battle and became the new caretakers of Isengard.
