Mallos was a flower that grew in the vales of Lebennin in Gondor, described as having the shape and colour of a golden bell.[1]
Etymology
Mallos is a Sindarin name meaning "golden flower",[2] apparently consisting of elements related to malt ("gold") + loth/loss ("flower"/"snow").
Portrayal in adaptations
2014: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor:
- Mallos is a flower which can heal Talion. It is described as looking similar to Alfirin, though Alfirin had a pleasent aroma while Mallos' was musty and skunky. It is said that healers used it in combination with other flowers and its primary usage is in lozenges and draughts, which stopped coughs and soothed throats. It is mentioned that, while native to Gondor, it now grows in Mordor, likely due to the Outcasts (Gondorian Rangers who deserted and now reside in Mordor).
