Rivendell is an epic black metal band with folk influences from Hallwang, Austria.[1] The solo project of Gerold Laimer (Falagar), the band was formed in 1998 under the name Fangorn and adopted its current name the same year.[2] It takes its name from Rivendell, the hidden valley of Elrond in Middle-earth. Its 2000 debut The Ancient Glory features songs named after Nimrodel, Théoden and Aragorn.
