The South Undeep was one of two westward bends of the river Anduin located between The Wold and the Brown Lands (the other being the North Undeep). The South Undeep was the smaller of the two bends.[1] Both of the Undeeps had many shallows and wide shoals that afforded an easy crossing for armies,[2] which occurred a number of times during the history of Gondor and Rohan.
Portrayal in adaptations
2012: The Lord of the Rings Online:
- The South Undeep is located in the northern Wold, connecting two riverbanks through a small island in the middle of the river. Due to the unstable political situation in Rohan, a party of Easterlings has been able to take the crossing and establish a fortified camp on the western bank, from which they attack and burn the Rohirrim town of Langhold.
