The Lament for Gandalf article lists this as “Frodo’s Lament.” It’s not official, but it is an easier title to deal with. I propose a rename for this page. Failing that, I suppose we should fix the other page’s link. Aeglos (talk) 05:48, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- I don’t think a rename is necessary. Renaming the page to a term that Tolkien never thought of could lead to people thinking that the poem’s name actually is Frodo's Lament. I just made a redirect page for the term. Regarding the current name of the page, Tolkien did refer to the poem as the "Song of Frodo and Sam" in a draft which Christopher Tolkien mentioned on page 266 (note 18) in The Treason of Isengard. Tolkien also referred to the poem twice as "Frodo's Song" in a manuscript mentioned in note 33 in The Treason of Isengard. In the index of that book, the words "Lament for Gandalf" appears next to "Song of Frodo and Sam". Given that the names "Song of Frodo and Sam" and "Frodo's Song" do not appear in the published book itself, it may not be a good idea to use those names outside of a possible OVOTL section. Despite this, however, the poem in the published book is a song that is sung by Frodo and Sam (though mostly by Frodo) and as such, the possible use of either name as a page-name could plausibly be argued in favor of. However, I think that the name of the page is fine the way it currently is, but others may have different thoughts on this.Dour1234 (talk) 06:31, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
