Do we need this page?

Woodcraft isn't a a particularly important topic in Tolkien's writings (word is used once in LOTR & UT, twice in the Silmarillion) and his usage of the word doesn't seem to differ from the dictionary definition of the word.~ Éowyn talk ~

The term "woodcraft" is also used one more time in the Children of Hurin ("but the woodcraft of Beleg and the valour of Túrin made them seem to their enemies as a host") and once in the Lays of Beleriand ("to his proven lore / and wise woodcraf"). In the LotR it is also said that the Druedain were "woodcrafty beyond compare. So overall there are at least 7 usages of this word. This word also seems quite interesting and unusual to me, so maybe it deserves its own article? --Angon (talk) 22:59, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do not find ”woodcraft” and “woodcrafty” to be particularly interesting or unusual words. Such opinions isn’t really notable to give something a page. However, wood as a material is probably notable enough given that there are other pages on other materials.Dour1234 (talk) 00:13, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have not been able to find pages on other materials(I.e. wood, stone, glass, etc); however such a page might be useful still. Does wood have any cultural significance for and races or groups in Tolkien's world? Taurlumiel Celegsûltaur (talk) 11:39, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Woodcraft means "skills required to survive in woodlands" and has nothing to do with "wood" as a material.--Angon (talk) 15:04, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, that is what the intended use of the page was for-to offer a definition for Tolkien's world specifically, as the word has different meanings. But the usefulness of the page has been questioned, and that is what this discussion is on, currently. Taurlumiel Celegsûltaur (talk) 15:15, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If we keep this page, we should probably make it about wood in Tolkien’s works in general rather than specifically woodcraft.Dour1234 (talk) 00:13, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe it could be merged with Trees? ~ Éowyn talk ~ 14:34, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Perhaps. Is there a section for 'skills?' I am not sure. Would it be best to do away with the page altogether? Taurlumiel Celegsûltaur (talk) 15:17, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I would say that it would be better for this page to be about wood as a material and the uses and views of wood in Tolkien's legendarium (with a section for adaptations). The information about woodcraft specifically could perhaps be moved to a possible forests page or maybe merged onto the trees page as User:Éowyn has brought up. There are pages on other materials on this wiki, specifically on Category:Materials. There is also a stones in Middle-earth Role Playing page that could perhaps be reworked possibly into an adaptations section for a potential stones page.Dour1234 (talk) 15:40, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That seems reasonable, I agree. Taurlumiel Celegsûltaur (talk) 15:44, 5 September 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
