As of now, this page contains no connection to Tolkien or his works -- is this something which could be added? --Morgan 18:18, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Morgan, I believe the largest literature only devoted SF convention has a lot to do with JRRT. Only it needs someone knowing more than me in the topic to edit the information. I wanted to attend Loncon in 2014, unfortunately didn't manage, but TS members won a costume competition there with their Valar costumes, maybe such information is a start? Surely there had to be more JRRT orientated stuff and there are people who attended it. But if you decide Worldcon has no use, then remove it. Only if so why keeping a pop culture oriented Comic-Con on the conventions list? AFAIK it is movies and games oriented, with literature being in minority. But I've never been there, I could be wrong.--Sirielle 18:41, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, Sirielle! Let's keep it for a while and see if the article gets expanded (I'll add a template atop the page).--Morgan 19:21, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- The same could be done for Eurocon, I belive. During Tricon in 2010 in Poland and Czech (the convent took place in a town which lies on both sides of the Polish-Czech border) there were many JRRT related lectures and activities. It was Eurocon, Polcon and Parcon conventions in one. I was there but I don't known when I'll have time to add anything. Also Tricon page got lost in cyberspace.
- For Worldcon if anyone wants to add information - quick links from Google with info I believe worth adding:
- * Worldcon 32 - "Gandalf Grand Master Award: J. R. R. Tolkien"! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/32nd_World_Science_Fiction_Convention#Other_awards
- * Worldcon 36 - "Gandalf Award for Book-Length Fantasy: The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien (edited by Christopher Tolkien)" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gandalf_Award
- * http://www.tolkiensociety.org/events/seminar-at-loncon-3/
- There was more, but I think the Gandalf Awards are the first thing to add.--Sirielle 19:49, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- Given the fact that LonCon I also was Worldcon XV and Tolkien won and received a trophy there it would be something worth adding, definitely. Olwe (talk) 09:10, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
