The Poetry of J.R.R. Tolkien is booklet by George Burke Johnston, containing an essay about J.R.R. Tolkien's poetry. The essay features a reprint of Tolkien's poem "The Root of the Boot" (pages 10–11) which was first published in Songs for the Philologists. Burke Johnston's essay is a slightly revised version of that published in The Tolkien Papers.
The booklet was not intended for sale, and was privately circulated by Burke Johnston. A "specially printed, specially bound copy of the booklet" was sent to Tolkien, who responded on 24 May 1968.[1]
The booklet was also printed in a 1968 edition, with red lettering on the cover instead of black.[2]
