Paul Corfield Godfrey's Tolkien Songs for voice and piano were written (and re-written) during the early 1970s and were all conceived as part of an extensive cycle on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.  The rights to these songs were granted by the estate as part of the Akallabêth and other Tolkien works album release.

They were all subsequently orchestrated. In Western Lands was also incorporated into Beren and Lúthien, Op. 47 (Opera).
