Soni Alcorn-Hender, also known by the pseudonym Bohemian Weasel, is an English artist currently living in Portugal who has created artwork for numerous Tolkien-related publications and products.

History

Alcorn-Hender grew up in southern England and received a two-year diploma from Portsmouth College of Art & Design before moving to Scotland to complete a degree in illustration at the Glasgow School of Art. She later moved to Portugal to be with family and continues to pursue her artistic endeavors there.

The influence of J.R.R. Tolkien on Alcorn-Hender's art began at the age of four, when her parents began to read the author's works to her.[1] In addition to Tolkien, she also cites Golden Age illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, John Bauer, Edmund Dulac, and contemporary illustrator Yoshitaka Amano as influences.

Following the recommendation of fellow artist Grant Gould, in November 2007 she was commissioned by Topps to produce cards for the forthcoming The Lord of the Rings Masterpieces II series.[2] In 2013, Alcorn-Hender also worked on the licensed cards of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for Cryptozoic Entertainment.

Alcorn-Hender's artwork has been featured in numerous issues of Mallorn and Amon Hen, both of which are published by The Tolkien Society. She has also exhibited at many Tolkien exhibitions including several Oxonmoot conventions, "Evil in the Shining Light" in 2015, and "Illuminating Tolkien" in 2016, and "Far from the Shire Art, Art in the Mill" in 2017. In 2018, her work was chosen for the Tolkien Society annual Christmas card, which was shipped out with copies of Amon Hen. Her work has also been displayed in the Beyond Bree calendar, having appeared in the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2026 editions.[1]
