Cave-drakes are a type of Dragon that appear in several adaptations of The Lord of the Rings.

Middle-earth Role Playing

In Middle-earth Role Playing, Cave-drakes were a lesser variety of Dragons descended from Cold-drakes. They were wingless and lacked any breath weapon, while also being smaller than other Dragons.

Like greater Dragons, they were capable of speech. They were however much less intelligent, and also prone to lying. Cave-drakes were very aggressive, even to others of their own kind.

One specific breed of Cave-drakes were the Cave Worms, limbless and slimy creatures who dwelt in the Under-deeps.[1]

Both Cave-drakes and Cave Worms appear in the Middle-earth Collectible Card Game, which was also published by Iron Crown Enterprises.[2]

Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game

In the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, Cave Drakes were subterranean dragons who dwelt under mountain ranges. They were known to viciously defend their nests, making them the natural enemies of the Dwarves who delved those mountains.[3]
