Oronzo Cilli is an Italian independent Tolkien scholar and researcher. He translated the second Italian edition of The Annotated Hobbit (Lo Hobbit annotato) in 2004.[1] He gained international notoriety after publishing J.R.R. Tolkien the Esperantist: Before the Arrival of Bilbo Baggins in 2015.[2] His 2019 book Tolkien's Library: An Annotated Checklist won the Best Book Award from The Tolkien Society in 2020[3] and was a finalist for the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Inklings Studies in 2021.[4] In 2023 he curated the exhibition Tolkien: Uomo, Professore, Autore ("Tolkien: Man, Professor, Author").
