Hello, I'm Yaulendil.[8][1]

About

I'm a Tolkien fan. I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in my youth. More recently I've read The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, History of Middle-earth aside from Volumes VI to VIII, and Nature of Middle-earth.

Joining Tolkien Gateway

My first interaction with the wiki was pointing out that Melian has no red clothes. Her page no longer says she does,[9] but looking at fan art of Melian across the web I found enough red or reddish depictions of her clothes to believe that, in the eleven years that edit was visible[10] (and having hid within the source code for five years before that),[11] artists incorporated that one line in an infobox into their work.[12]

Later, someone pointed out that there's no basis for the claim that Númenóreans tried to sail the Outer Sea and sank, so I made an account to edit it out of the Vaiya article. But the claim had already long ago migrated to Wikipedia and One Wiki To Rule Them All.

Ongoing work

There's no project I'll list below that you can't work on in my stead, if you want to. Most of this I'll probably never get around to.

Other to-dos:

  • Transwiki stuff
    • If I've gotten rid of unsourced claims on TG, I should track down what other wikis they've migrated to and make sure they're deleted there too. (Done. The Numenoreans drowning in Ekkaia was the only thing, right?)
      • Could also fix up Wikipedia's mentions of Noah's flood in relation to the Ireland portion of The Lost Road, which misleadingly suggests that Noah's flood is mentioned in those sketches. The editor must've been aware of the dating in the Book of Invasions, and added that context in even though it doesn't come up in HoMe V. Check if it's on OWTRTA too.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 Hmm, actually maybe I should've went with "Miuendil", miuë is at least Middle Period while all the previous other ones were Early Period. (Yaulë and mëoi certainly EQ., not sure about while miurë, miura and miuro, which might best be classified only as are NQ.) Oh well, I kind of like the sound of "Yaulendil" better. For whatever reason, on Elfdict mëoi, yaulë, *miura, *miuro and *miurë were all "graduated" to Late Period while miue with its helpful commentary stayed in Middle Period.
  2. From *muig + -dil, using Elaran's "more normal development" *mŷg < miukē instead of *muig, which Rínor said would be Mýgdil when combined with -dil. Before that I had been going with NS. or EN. Muigdil, which would be correct if sticking to Eldamo's *muig.
  3. From φιλέω + αἴλουρος, I'm sure they combine in a way I don't understand.
  4. From amo + cattus. Could have tried Amafeles.
  5. From *kattuz + *winiz and then modified like "Alboin" from *albiz + *winiz; my best guess.
  6. From catt + wine, but there could be some rule when combining the words I'm not aware of.
  7. Derived from Cattwine along the same lines as Alwin from Ælfwine and Edwin from Éadwine.
  8. From yaulë + -(n)dil. I'd previously considered "Mëoindil" and "Miurendil" or "Miurandil", but "Yaulendil" seems seemed the safest bet.
